Spectrum GT is an audiovisual exploration of the transforming power of light, reflections and sound. It is created by Klang! (Barcelona) and UNSTATIC (London), who team up again with product81 in Miami for the creation of this bespoke installation, presented during Miami Art Week 2019.
Featuring a Ford GT40 as the protagonist, we used a combination of dynamic light sources and projections to transform a one-of-a-kind car into a canvas for the reflection of the visual elements.
It is inspired by the capability of light and sound to transform our perception with its different frequencies, the spectrum. Built around the concept of a voyage, it engages the spectator in a unique visual experience.
The car was placed in a room covered with mirrors, designed to create a sense of displacement, a hall of irregular reflections. A custom physical structure of lights was built around the car, displaying a colour narrative simulating a trip, transforming the environment through the reflections.
Projections in sync with the lights and sound create a constant influx of perceptions of this abstract but narrative world. The soundscape created for the installation features real GT40 sounds as atomic composition elements for the music and sound effects.
For this work of art, we used the Trentacinque (35) light system, made by Aria, an Italian lighting manufacturer. UNSTATIC and Klang! premiered this luminaire system during the Milan Design Week 2019, where we did a custom art installation in Ventura Centrale, to launch the first family of products by Aria.
